New Connections and Flights at Palma Airport
For quite some time, Palma has become a nerve centre not only for tourists and expatriates looking to move abroad but also for culture, art, good food, and, of course, outdoor living.
For decades, Mallorca has been a favourite destination for unspoiled nature and a tranquil lifestyle that attracts new businesses and people from all over the world.
Mallorca - A Perfect Filming Destination
A combination of over 300 days of sunshine a year, picturesque landscapes, a spectacular mountain range, and stunning coastline have put Mallorca on the map for travellers from all over the world.
In 2016, the film 'Me Before You' starring Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke was filmed on the stunning Formentor beach, which in the film represented a romantic getaway to Mauritius. Another major hit filmed on the island was 'The Night Manager', released in 2016, which used our sunny island as a backdrop. The film features a stellar cast: Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, and Elizabeth Debicki. Do you think you have seen the place where the famous kidnapping scene in a restaurant takes place? That’s because it was filmed at Ca's Patró March in Cala Deià, one of the restaurants you must not miss when you are on the island. In 2019, we saw 'The Hustle', which supposedly took place on the French Riviera, also filmed in Mallorca. The blockbuster starring Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway took over Puerto Portals, Portocolom, and Cala Ratjada, among other locations on the island. On 15 May, Netflix released 'White Lines', a series about a woman trying to solve the mysterious death of her brother, a famous DJ who disappeared from Ibiza many years ago. Although much of the series was filmed in Ibiza, the house where most of the scenes took place is in Mallorca. Marcus’ splendid house is a villa called Can Pirata in Cala D'Or, which is available on Airbnb! There’s more: the house that appears in the first episode is the famous estate S'Estaca in Valldemossa owned by Michael Douglas.
New Flights and Connections at Mallorca Airport
One of the most important novelties of the season comes from United Airlines, which announced that it will fly directly to Palma Son Sant Joan Airport from Newark Liberty International Airport. Starting from June 2022, the route will be scheduled three times a week. After becoming an increasingly popular destination for Americans, the Mallorca Tourism Foundation and the national tourism agency 'Turespaña' also announced that they will carry out promotional activities in certain U.S. cities, such as Boston, New York, and Washington, as well as in other places – Atlanta and Miami.
But New York is not the only new city that will have direct flights to Palma. easyJet will operate in Palma de Mallorca with two direct weekly flights from Lille starting on 1 May. We already had flights to Bordeaux, Nantes, Nice, Toulouse, and Geneva, and now Lille increases the accessibility of Belgian travellers to the idyllic destination that is Mallorca.
Additionally, other new air connections include:
- Lufthansa: direct flights from Frankfurt and Munich.
- Ryanair: new routes from Berlin, Vienna, and Milan.
- Vueling: direct flights from Paris and Rome.
- British Airways: direct flights from London.
Growing Interest in Mallorcan Real Estate
As we have previously mentioned in our blog, Mallorca has been one of the most interesting markets for real estate investments for many decades. The market has experienced steady growth over the last decade, and even when it was believed that the real estate market would stagnate after COVID, the reality was completely the opposite: the sale of high-end properties and demand continued.
And there is something else that stands out when analysing the real estate market on the island after COVID: outdoor living has become even more important and popular among homebuyers. The new reality, which includes social distancing and a greater emphasis on privacy, has made living in Mallorca extremely attractive. We have witnessed a strong increase in demand for fincas or villas with ample land, terraces, swimming pools, and/or Mediterranean gardens. This new reality has given us more than ever the possibility to work from home, therefore having a comfortable and spacious house to do so has become a priority. Fortunately, the Mallorcan real estate market is full of opportunities to lead a healthier and more tranquil lifestyle.
