Why we love Puerto Pollensa in the summer
Mallorca’s modest gem
Situated in the north of the island, Puerto Pollensa could quite rightly be classified as a “modest gem”, definitely as an unassuming one! This paradise oozes laid-back charm and offers stunning beaches, crystal clear waters and a magnificent backdrop dominated by the Tramuntana foothills. If you are looking for unforgettable and relaxing summer holidays, Puerto Pollensa is the place to go.
The port may not be the ultimate glamour location on Mallorca and certainly cannot compete with say Puerto Portals or Port Adriano, but it has had, and will always have, its own special allure, flair, and fan club. Properties for sale in Puerto Pollensa and surroundings are extremely popular and their price tag is certainly not as high as in other regions of the island. People who decide to buy a finca or an apartment in Puerto Pollensa are, more often than not, nature lovers who appreciate the natural beauty of North Mallorca.
Puerto Pollensa also a VIP location
Puerto Pollensa is about the non-attention seeking celebs who prefer to spend their summer holidays here than in more publicity exposed locations. Therefore nowadays, you may see the likes of Britain’s former PM, David Cameron, or Tour de France winner, Sir Bradley Wiggins, ambling along the sea front. Or even better, you may probably walk past a celeb without realising who that is – a sign that you are already in the port’s famous “laid-back” mode! In previous years Peter Ustinov and, going back even farther, Agatha Christie were regulars, loving to spend their holidays in the port or Formentor. Many have bought an apartment or a villa for sale in Puerto Pollensa and surroundings, preferring to have their own island home for more privacy.
The beautiful, privately owned peninsula called Sa Fortaleza, with its fabulous views over the bay and port, regularly hosts wedding venues of the rich, famous and those who can simply afford the hefty price tag! Famous footballers, Mallorca’s adored tennis ace, Rafa Nadal, love the romantic atmosphere and privacy of Sa Fortaleza for their most special day. The internationally highly successful TV series, The Night Manager, with top stars such as Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, was also shot on location on Mallorca and partly at Sa Fortaleza. The port was abuzz with TV crews and stars as was the whole island, and island streets were swept clean during the airing on TV of The Night Manager.
The Med at your feet
Those who have always dreamt of enjoying a typical Mediterranean meal by the sea can choose in Puerto Pollensa from a number of first-class seafront restaurants, one bar/restaurant is even on the beach! So, what can be more romantic than enjoying a summer meal whilst the sun spectacularly sets on the horizon, a sight no-one will ever forget. Even better: imagine, you are sitting on your own private terrace of your town house for sale in Puerto Pollensa with a glass of champagne and witnessing this sensational sight!
Puerto Pollensa’s beaches seem to be sheer endless, long stretches of glorious soft sandy bliss invite to spend the day relaxing in the sun. There are specific spots for everyone, families with kids or groups of teens will soon have their favourite beach area. The crystal-clear water is fairly shallow leading off from the beach, so parents need not worry when the kids hit the water. Looking down at the bay from a hillside position in Puerto Pollensa in the summer, the Med shows off its various colour schemes from emerald to deep blue, the result is simply breathtaking.
Action for the sporty holidaymakers
There are various water sports companies in Puerto Pollensa, here beginners can learn to surf, sail or water paddle just to name a few of the activities. And of course, you can rent from the smallest dinghy to the fastest speed boat with or without skipper. Diving centres will take you diving into the depths off the spectacular coastline, the not so brave can enjoy the sensation of the wind in their hair whilst kite- or windsurfing. Puerto Pollensa is definitely the perfect location for water sports enthusiasts.
Those who prefer a sport on land will delight in the golf courses close by. There are two superb courses up here in the north of the island. The Pollensa golf course has nine holes and a lovely hilly location where the awesome sea views may well distract from the game! In Alcanada, near Puerto Alcúdia, one of Europe’s top golf courses awaits amateur and professional players. Set right on the seafront in one corner of the Alcúdia bay, it has got to be not only one of Europe’s best but most beautiful settings for golf.
Back to our beloved Puerto Pollensa, there are so many reasons why we love Puerto Pollensa in the summer. The atmosphere is so easy-going, the beach so inviting and the sea just so silky and crystal clear, perfect for your holiday mode. The choice of top restaurants waiting to pamper your taste buds seems endless, and your older teen kids even have a couple of discos and music bars to get together with their friends and new holiday acquaintances. The perfect solution for anyone who wants to come back every summer, is to buy an uncomplicated lock-up and go home, be it an apartment or a villa for sale in Puerto Pollensa. Then you are independent of hotel bookings and can come and go in your own personal time. So why Puerto Pollensa – because it simply has it all!
