The most important areas in west of Mallorca where to buy a property
This region is dominated by the majestic Serra de Tramuntana, Mallorca's spectacular mountain range, a UNESCO Heritage site. A large area is taken up by a national park and part of it is made up of the oldest woodlands in the Mediterranean, if not Europe. Having discovered the fabulous views and the favourable climate in the summer, the wealthy have been choosing to take up a summer residence in this area for centuries. Distances here can be deceptive, the roads often tortuously twisted and not for the faint-hearted driver. The exquisite views and spectacular landscape, terraced fields and stone houses have attracted countless artists and writers, especially to the tiny village Deià, which suffers somewhat from the sheer numbers of wealthy jetsetters in midsummer wishing to enjoy an BoHo artistic way of life. The ever-popular and exclusive area of Andratx forms the western end of the Serra de Tramuntana. If you wish to set up home with a stunning landscape as a backdrop, this is definitely the region for you.

The imposing backdrop of the majestic Puig d'es Teix mountain gives Deià an almost mystical appeal.

Even though Deià has a justifiably renowned reputation internationally, the small town still chugs along witrh a peaceful, extremely laid-back creative vibe.
A little history
The coastal settlement of Deià owes its origins to the original Muslim settlers who called the place 'Ad-Daya', meaning 'village'. Starting in the 10th century, locals began to construct the irrigation systems and agricultural terraces which are still in use today. After the Christian reconquest in the 13th century, Deià was gifted to the Count of Rossello and became part of the neighbouring town of Valldemossa, before gaining its independence in the 16th century.
