The most important areas in south of Mallorca where to buy a property
The southern tip of Mallorca has the coastlines and fishing possibilities which mostly attract the locals, they choose Colonia de San Jordí and Sa Rápita as the place to buy a second home and spend the summer months near the sea. The choice of location is determined by the quality of beaches, the cleanliness of the water and abundance of fish and the favourable winds and currents - perfect conditions for sailing. The rural areas in the south of Mallorca are among the most sparsely populated regions of the island. The flat countryside, mostly farmland, stretches from Llucmajor and Campos to the sea. A little history
The coastal settlement of Deià owes its origins to the original Muslim settlers who called the place 'Ad-Daya', meaning 'village'. Starting in the 10th century, locals began to construct the irrigation systems and agricultural terraces which are still in use today. After the Christian reconquest in the 13th century, Deià was gifted to the Count of Rossello and became part of the neighbouring town of Valldemossa, before gaining its independence in the 16th century.
