With its fabulous long beach, crystal clear waters and gorgeous mountains as a backdrop, it’s easy to see why Puerto Pollensa is in great demand as a location to buy a family holiday home in Mallorca. Puerto Pollensa is dotted with delightful stone-trimmed villas, some whitewashed to blend perfectly with the aqua blue sea. Part of the coastal road has been pedestrianised providing an attractive promenade ideal for enjoying a stroll or a bike ride.
Puerto de Pollensa has a dozen or so good hotels. For something different try Hotel Llenaire (971 535 251). A couple of miles outside of the town, it is run by a family a combination of a farm and an old manor house on a hillside overlooking the bay of Pollensa. All the hotel rooms are decorated in eighteenth-century style and outside you can enjoy an infinity pool and sauna. Hotel Illa d’Or (971 865 100) dates back to the roaring 1920s and is located right on the waterfront. It has its own private beach and boat jetty. The interior decor is modern and pools, saunas and a gym are at the guests' disposal.
Eating out in Puerto Pollensa is an absolute delight. There is an exquisite restaurant scene and cafes abound. There are the usual tourist orientated places but also a good choice of quality restaurants serving fresh seafood and local products. Stay Restaurant (971 864 013) is a modern well-established restaurant situated on the pier of Moll Nou. It offers great food (particularly seafood) and an excellent wine celler. It is a good idea to book in the summer months for an evening meal. A good family-run restaurant is Celler La Parra (971 865 041) once an old wine warehouse, the menu is predominantly Mallorcan and the freshly-prepared food is a delight.
Pollensa has its own course, the Pollensa Golf Club (971 533 216) which enjoys a most spectacular location. The 9-hole facility is ideal for all players and offers fabulous views across the bay. You can also benefit from a putting green, a driving range and a pitching area. Alcanda Golf Club (971 549 560) just a short drive away near Alcudia, provides superb vistas of the Bay of Alcudia and the breathtaking Tramuntana mountains.
