Buying Property in Mallorca on a Small Budget

Buying a property abroad is a major investment, so it’s important you get it right, particularly when money can still be tight. For potential property buyers who love Majorca and its wonderful quality of life, you can still find an excellent range of Mallorcan properties on the island at a good value price.

Mallorca – one of the world’s most popular places to live

Fabulous climate, beautiful beaches, superb cuisine and seeped in culture, Majorca may not be the cheapest warm-weather island you could buy property in, but it can represent tremendous value for money.

Buying a home in Mallorca not only guarantees you a sun-drenched lifestyle but also many other outstanding benefits. The island has beautiful clean beaches and crystal clear waters. If you are the active type, there are some fantastic golf courses and watersports opportunities. Mallorcan cuisine is fresh and delicious, especially seafood and the national rice dish, paella. The island also produces some amazing wines.

But it’s not all sun, sea and Sangria. Mallorca (indeed the whole of Spain) has a very stable democratic political structure. Being an EU country also means that you can take advantage of Mallorca’s excellent free state healthcare system.

As regards property, there are strict limits on building, preventing over development and ensuring the area you choose to buy in and your home itself is protected.

How to find a good value property in Majorca

So with a small budget, how do you go about finding a good value Majorcan property you can afford? An easy way to start is to do a simple price search on Balearic-properties.com.

As a rule of thumb, property prices begin tumbling as you move away from the sea. Village homes inland tend to be more affordable than those on the coast. Consider buying an affordable home say 10 miles from the sea and you could save a great deal. (With Majorca being an island, you are never far from the sea anyway. Mallorcan roads are excellent as is the public transport system.)

It’s a fact that many foreign buyers prefer to be in the countryside anyway. It’s quieter and more peaceful than the city and some of the more boisterous seaside resorts. There’s another advantage too, as you move inland the terrain tends to become more elevated, giving you splendid views often right down to the water’s edge.

That said, you certainly are not restricted to the inland areas. Due to la crisis there are quite a few bank repossessions in some of the loveliest areas of the Majorca for sale, so look out for a bargain here.
