Palma Airport – 6 new flight routes opening

From May onwards new flights to cities in the UK, Germany, Denmark and Belgium

At last, some good news for property owners and visitors coming from the airport, flight access to the island is improving: Mallorca’s airport is adding six new international connections from early May onwards. New flights to destinations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark and Belgium are being offered.

On Thursday (1.5.), two new connections with Great Britain started, namely Palma-Manchester (Condor, five times a week) and Palma-Norwich (three times a week). The new Germany connection will be available from Friday (2.5.) onwards: Germania is flying the route Palma-Friedrichshafen twice a week. On Saturday (3.5.) flights from Palma to Aberdeen (Germania, twice a week), to Billund in Denmark (TUInordic, twice a week) and Brussels (Vueling, three times a week) will be available.

These flights will be in the program until the end of the summer season. A total of 33 new connections are being offered at Palma airport this summer.

Staying in touch with Palma airport further good news is that taxes are to be frozen next year while all existing incentives will not be cut back! This is according to the Spanish airport authority AENA, who made this announcement last week.

The news was welcomed by domestic and international airlines and, in the case of the Balearics, could make operating winter flights more attractive because it will be cheaper for the airlines.

The President of AENA, Jose Manuel Vargas, explained that the move will cost AENA around 150 million Euros - an estimated 77 million Euros will be lost by freezing airport taxes while a further 75 million Euros is lost by offering discounts and incentives at certain airports.

Campos decides to start a bus shuttle service to the nature beach Es Trenc

For all home owners in the south east of the island who are beach lovers and regular visitors of one of Mallorca’s most beautiful beaches! Thank goodness the community finally wants to put an end to the parking chaos in Ses Covetes.

The municipality of Campos has decided to set up a bus shuttle service between the village and the emblematic beach Es Trenc on the south coast of Mallorca. This is according to a tourism plan, which was released on Thursday (27.3.) and approved by the municipal council.

The plan is to let the bus run between a new public parking lot and the beach for a "symbolic price" or even free of charge. By introducing this service, the community is hoping to end the parking chaos in Ses Covetes, where many beach visitors park their car at the roadside, thus blocking some access roads for ambulances. Those who go to the beach in their own car are advised to use the parking zone (ORA) or pay private parking.

The plans of the municipality of Campos go beyond the shuttle: the plan is to encourage alternative means of transport such as cycling or horse-riding. Furthermore, at an information point on the new parking lot, beach visitors should also be made aware of what else the community has to offer such as gastronomy, in order to promote the local economy.

Car sharing for Mallorca

Interesting news for property owners with teenage kids and those who have a lot of visitors throughout the year! The Island Council has created an Internet platform for the formation of carpools.

In other countries, for example in Germany, car-sharing has been practiced for a long time, so now car-sharing is to be introduced in Mallorca. The Island Council has created the Internet portal www.compartir.org for this purpose. On the site, which is also available in an English version, motorists can offer their routes in Mallorca to fellow travelers. The Island Council wants to help people to reduce their travel costs and to contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Take, for example, four people instead of one in a car going from Alcudia to Palma, the "Consell" calculates this could save 23 Euros.

The Island Council is now launching car sharing in a promotional campaign to make this alternative form of transport known. The service is connected to a platform for mainland Spain and can therefore also be used for routes all over Spain.
