The Superyacht Cup Palma 2014 18-21 June
The Caribbean season has drawn to a close and focus is now switching to the upcoming Mediterranean circuit where interest is as high as ever. With 22 entries for the regatta the STP and Moll Vell docks that play host to the Superyacht Cup Palma are close to full capacity.
Palma has always been a popular choice for yachts returning from the Caribbean, preparing for charter, racing and cruising throughout Europe. The facilities local companies offer are some of the best in the world, incorporating the latest technology with the quality and experience of specialist companies for repair, refit and maintenance.
Running since 1996, The Superyacht Cup Palma is the longest running superyacht regatta in Europe and attracts many of the most prestigious sailing yachts from all over the world. The spectacular regatta is a favourite with yacht owners, friends, captains and crew who visit Palma de Mallorca annually for the 4 day regatta. Both of the 2013 class champions are back to race as participants in the glorious 26 strong fleet, which has assembled in Palma for the Superyacht Cup in the Bay of Palma.
Ranging in size from the 24 metre Heartbeat and Drumfire to the 51 metre schooner Borkumriff IV, the fleet will sail three races over Thursday, Friday and Saturday, including coastal courses of between 19 and 30 miles.
Class 1 winner last year Highland Breeze, the 34m Swan is back to defend the title they won in the Bay of Palma last year, as is Heartbeat which was awarded the overall trophy last year.
With warm early summer conditions and reliable sea breezes, the Bay of Palma offers some of the most idyllic racing conditions in the Mediterranean. The racing is run by the highly experienced international Race Officers and the team at Real Club Nautico de Palma. The participating superyachts are all moored together stern-to in the Superyacht Cup Regatta Village located at Muelle Viejo with the iconic Palma Cathedral and palm tree lined Paseo Maritimo providing a stunning back drop.
A five minute walk from the Regatta Village you can find Boutique City Hotels, first class restaurants, the best in international shopping as well as famous architecture, art galleries and historical museums.
