Increase of Russian visitors to Mallorca

According to data from the Spanish consulate in Russia, Russian tourism in Spain during the last year doubled since 2009 and 2010. Particularly strong increases have been visitors to Tenerife, the Costa Brava and especially to Mallorca, where visits are up nearly 80% compared to last year's data.

Mallorca Island has become an increasingly popular destination in the country in eastern Europe and the influx of visitors grows each year. A decade ago, only 8,000 Russians visited the island. Today, they do almost 40,000, and this number is growing at an unstoppable pace, however, is expected next year that number will double again and so, many hoteliers and business owners are trying to capture this type of customer.

There are more than one million Russian visitors annually throughout the Spanish territory, a number that consolidates the tourists of this nationality as one of the main tourist activities in Spain, especially in view of the decline in British visitors, French, especially German and Japanese, with reductions of up to 20% in their number. Visitors Russians occupied the 20th place in the ranking of tourists in Spain. Today you are about to enter the top 10, and the increase exceeds that of any other country. Changes in mentality, economic openness, and paradise of sun and sand to represent Mallorca and Spain in general, are some of the causes of this unrelenting growth of Russian tourism in Spain.

The data also confirm the Russian tourism as it brings more revenue to the destination. Russian tourists are considered as a visitor who likes the good life, good hotels, and you spend about 50% more than other tourists, particularly around 1,500 euros per visitor. However, nothing to do with the rich tourist image and ungrateful, but most are part of a powerful and growing middle class, who prefers the good hotels of 4, and even 3 stars. They are generally aged between 21 and 50 years, but each year reveals a greater variety of visitors, especially in destinations such as Majorca, where many families with children and even have their own home. And those who do not, tend to be far more vacation days than Italian, French, English or German, and stay, on average, about 3 weeks.

No wonder that more and more open lines between Spain and Russia. More and more flights from and to Russia, and greater connections to the airports of the country. Of the two connections with existing Russian cities years ago, to the more than 20 that are operational today. A sample of Russian tourism increasingly is best seen, better considered and more taken into account. The numbers say it should be.

The claim of all Russian tour groups, hotel industry, autonomies, including Islands, and the growing demand for Russian residential tourism in Spain has prompted the Spanish Foreign Ministry inaugurated on Friday, the 20th, a new center visas in the capital Moscow to maximize the output of Russian tourists to all Spanish holiday destinations, but especially to the Balearic Islands, hence the forecast is that Russian tourism grows in the islands this summer 10% more than expected, reaching 50% compared to previous years.

At present, the Consulate General of Spain in Moscow, who heads the Majorcan descent diplomat Miguel Bauza, ranks first in volume of visas issued in Moscow, compared with that of other competing countries. The new center occupies an area of 1,296 square meters, has 180 employees and is expected to be a daily flow of 2,000 people.

Forecasts
