The fire in Sa Coma de Andratx is uncontrolled and has already affected nearly one thousand acres of forest.

Fifteen aircraft and 240 people on the ground are still fighting the flames apparently started by a man who burned stubble causing the fire. The fire in was visible from the whole Port Andratx and Andratx Village.

Eight aircraft, seven helicopters and 240 people of different security on the ground fighting the blaze this morning that from 12.30 hours has swept yesterday and nearly a thousand acres of pine forest in Andratx. Four seaplanes, three of them coming from the peninsula and three cargo planes land fronts throw water on the fire, which at night has continued led by registered variable winds in the area.

Moreover, the three helicopters that has Ibanat Balearic and four displaced from the peninsula also work on the fire, all coordinated by surveillance aircraft from establishing priorities for action. First thing came by sea to the island to join the operating heavy firing 80 officers of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) from Valencia, who joined the team and are three fire engines and a truck mothership.

Since yesterday afternoon flew to Mallorca in 27 military helicopters who worked together with the various local fire stations, civil guards, agents Ibanat, Civil Protection personnel, and other health workforce deployed in Andratx bodies. As reported this morning Firefighters Mallorca, the Balearic Institute of Nature (Ibanat) and Emergency Department of the Government, the roads between this population and setting s'Arracó Estellencs Mallorcan remain closed this morning, but is reopened to traffic from Andratx to Sant Elm.

The focal extinction device is installed in the city of Andratx, where at noon will move Balearic Government President Jose Ramon Bauza, to follow the evolution of the fire.

Yesterday, Bauza visited the area, which was evacuated as a precaution from their homes to nearly thirty people, and called for confidence in those working in extinguishing the fire. The proximity of the fire to the houses of some sort forced the evacuation of fifteen people in the areas of Sa Coma Sa Coma Freda and Calenta and eleven others of La Trappa.

Causes of fire

The recklessness of a man burning stubble in an area near is Capdellà could be the cause of serious fire that is devouring Andratx. The man, who is at liberty, was interrogated for several hours by the Civil Guard accused of an arson.

Just after 12:25 pm yesterday, emergency service calls received early warning of fire. The mobilization was complete. The Ibanat activated the first terrestrial, while effective fire departments from Palma and the Consell de Mallorca urgently moved to the place where the flames threatened several homes in the area.

About 15 people had to be evacuated from their homes in Andratx, while eleven hikers were evacuated from La Trappe. As a precaution, also further evictions of several houses nearby field as'Arracó.

About 60 members of the Regional Ministry of Environment, the Ibanat, the EMU and the Bombers de Mallorca worked through the night to try to control the fire. Last night also were preemptively evacuated some residents of the upper part of s'Arracó. The Guardia Civil, Policia Local, 112 and 061 are also pending in the evolution of the flames.

At the moment there is no evidence that housing directly affected by the fire but it is possible that further dislodging houses.
