Miquel please tell us a little about yourself and your family.

I am from Pollença, I was born here in the early 60s, I am married and have 2 kids – a boy and a girl

What do you enjoy most about life here in Mallorca?

The temperatures, the people, the colours and to be quite honest, there are very few things that I do not like about Mallorca!

When was LF91 founded and how did it all begin?

In 1997, I undertook my first project for myself. At that time I was working for a company that really had nothing to do with the world of construction, it was actually related to the tourist industry. I really enjoyed working at my project and I realised that there was a certain demand from people who wanted to build their own house and who had clear ideas about how they wanted their Mallorca house to look like – so in 2007 LF91 was founded. In the course of these years I did various projects, I got to know many people and I became aware of this demand. I did not have any confidence in the building boom which was taking place in those days and I decided that it would be better to build for those people who really wanted their Mallorca house built according to their wishes.

(Remember that throughout 2004 – 2008 many people simply bought Mallorca properties for sale just to sell them on again).

What made you become a constructor?

I realised that I was passionate about coordinating and managing this type of work.

What projects can you say do you specialise in?

I have more experience in modern design, but I also like the rustic design, provided it has a very Mallorcan character, that is as original as possible and needs the least possible materials.

What do you enjoy most about your work running your company and how would you describe a typical day?

I like it when each project is different to what one is used to, people have very different tastes and you have to adapt to them. We organize our day so that we have a few hours to visit building sites usually in the mornings and in the afternoons we contact clients to inform them of the work progress. We interact with the client to find out if what we are doing is exactly the best of their liking or if we have to make changes.
In addition to attending to potential new clients, we have meetings with those clients we are currently working for who usually come over every month or month and a half, we have meetings on the building sites.

Fortunately neither my team nor I have time to get bored, which we sincerely appreciate considering the current economic situation.

Which property type has been your number 1.

I can not really say, because each project of a Mallorca villa or house for sale that I do is new. There’s always one that you liked most, possibly due to the relationship with the client and that maybe you were able to be a bit more natural with regards to the design, and the relationship with the client has made the project a little more special.

How would you best describe your philosophy?

I just like making sure that things are functional and that the design is as nice as possible using the best quality materials and finishes.

How do you think do many people see Mallorca and how different is this to the reality?

People really see two Mallorcas: a Mallorca with tourist resorts, some of them crowded and the other Mallorca, the rural one, quieter or virgin so to speak.

There are people who clearly come seeking the lively Mallorca, but then there’s the other tourist who is very disappointed to see these crowded resorts.

Personally, the Mallorca I like is the second one and I think they have missed the opportunity this crisis has given, to change the face of tourism in order to have a less crowded Mallorca with a better quality.

In your opinion which 3 words describe Mallorca best?

The contrast between the countryside, the people, the seasons of the year, the culture, Mallorca’s exclusivity and the variety of properties for sale this island has to offer.

Miguel, having been born on Mallorca, what has been the biggest change?

The one I have seen has been the building boom during the 80s in the tourist areas.

What are your plans for the future both professionally and personally?

My personal plan is to look after my family and make sure that my children go their own way professionally.

Professionally, I would like to promote design more and open an LF91 office in the southern region of the island.
