Naturists are and have always been (in times of democracy, obviously) very much welcomed in Mallorca. Some beaches and coves of the Balearic Islands are among the few places in the world where nudism is considered a natural practice among both tourists and locals and there is respect for the clothing you want to wear (or don’t).
Nudism is a right covered in several articles of the Spanish Constitution and any regional law cannot rule against it. Even though, beaches need not be classified as nudist, as they are all public and everyone can wear what they wish as long as they respect the rest, places where nudism takes place are not usually the most touristic.
Even so, in touristic beaches it is not rare to see women topless, something very normal in our country, unlike other countries such as the United States where this practice is banned.
Mallorca’s large number of beaches with crystal clear water, glittering white sand or shingle surrounded by mountains and rocks frame an idyllic natural landscape. Such beautiful spots have always attracted the attention of tourists and swimmers, increasing the number of people who choose to bathe naked. The practice of nudism is very much related to connecting with nature and unspoilt places. Therefore, most of the beaches and coastal inlets naturists choose are far from urbanizations and developed areas.
Among the many beaches that fulfil these requirements, here are the most visited beaches among naturists. A part from the following coves and beaches, I would say that you can practice nudism with discretion on any uncrowded inlet around the island:
- We find Llucalcari in the village of Deià, in Serra de Tramuntana.
- On the west coast, in Calvià, beaches where nudism is often practiced are El Mago, Bella Dona and Es Caló des Monjo on the right side of Paguera.
- In the south of Mallorca we find Es Trenc and S’Arenal de sa Ràpita two of the most renowned unspoilt paradisiacal places in Mallorca, which get very crowded especially on Sundays and during the high season. Also, Es Pregons Grans between Colònia de Sant Jordi and Es Trenc.
- In the north of the island, we find the right side of Cala Mesquida next to Cala Agulla in Cala Ratjada, Cala Torta in Artà fairly isolated yet easily accessible by car, Sa Canova beach on the right side of Son Serra de Marina and s’Arenal d’en Casat in the natural area of Son Real.
- On the east coast, the main meeting point is Cala Varques between Porto Cristo and Porto Colom.
Just in case you are new to this, here is some advice. Naturism has been said to promote the acceptance of one’s body and its singularities. That is to say, it praises the body as we came to life and there are many people who practice or have practiced nudism that have come to the conclusion that it is, in fact, a healthy and positive experience.
