A Real Luxury Property On Mallorca
Move over, Dubai – Mallorca is about to get its own seven star hotel
For a few years now Puerto de Soller on Mallorca has been overlooked by a half-finished hotel. Now owned by an investment company, the Wingfield Corporation, work is due to begin on the complex once more. Wingfield aims for the hotel to be the finest not just on Mallorca – itself brimming with luxury establishments – but in Spain as a whole.
Of course, when you say 'luxury hotel' to most people, the first place they'll probably think of is the Burj al Arab in Dubai, that high-rise, sail-shaped structure rising out of the sea. That's the sort of standard that will be available at this hotel too, as it's due to be managed by the Jumeirah group, which also oversees the running at the Burj.
Thanks to its location in the quieter part of the island, Puerto de Soller has missed out on the overdevelopment and cheap package holiday boom that swamped (and some would say spoiled) other Mallorcan coastal towns. Now it's coming into its own, with new upmarket boutique hotels opening. As Mallorca itself is attracting increasingly wealthy property buyers and holidaymakers, this pretty resort just 10 kilometres from arty Deia looks set to become one of the island's more desirable locations. In fact, The Times listed Puerto de Soller as one of its Top 20 Beach Holidays back in January.
This could be good news for owners of rental properties in Puerto de Soller. As the hotels attract wealthier tourists the number of high-end shops and restaurants in the town is sure to increase, as will the number of people wanting to holiday in a prestigious resort. Rental rates may well rise locally, and property values certainly will.
